Malaysia 2012
We have kindly been invited by the Rotary Club of Malaysia to make a return visit in 2012.
The Trustees recently agreed that this visit, during the last fortnight of August 2012, will definitely
go ahead. The band will visit Kota Kinabalu in Sabah and Kuching in Sarawak, both located on the Malaysian
part of the island of Borneo. Those who came on the previous visit to the Far East in 2008 will remember that
we were very well looked after in Borneo and, judging by the information we have been given so far, this will
once again very much be the case. The Rotary Club of Malaysia will be covering the costs of our stay, so band
members will simply have to pay for the air fares, which we anticipate to be in the region of £800 maximum.
This visit will be for those aged 11 and over at the time of the visit (i.e. already started at, or about to
start, High School in September 2012). The band will be starting to
fundraise for this visit over the coming months and we also encourage individual members to start their own
fundraising activities as soon as possible. Any deposits or other money paid in by individuals will be fully
refunded until such time as the band has had to make a final commitment to this visit (i.e. once flights have
been booked). Recent ex-members of the band, particularly those who came on the last visit to the Far East, will
also be very welcome to come on this trip.

The Mason Trust Application:
Paul Thompson is in the process of applying for a grant on behalf of SNYSB from The Mason Trust (a local charity based in Diss), to help raise funds for the trip to Malaysia. The Trust has recommended that band members who are aged 12-25, and would like to benefit from any grant they might make, should individually write a personal letter to the Trustees. This small amount of effort might prove very worthwhile! If you would like to be part of this application, please let Paul Thompson have a copy of your letter by the 30th January 2012
